Two years ago, I had the pleasure of attending the immersive Van Gogh exhibit at the Atelier Des Lumieres in Paris, France. This was a digital art exhibit of Vincent Van Gogh’s painting accompanied by appropriate music. However, the exhibit was in a former nineteenth century iron foundry that has been transformed to display the paintings on the wall, ceiling, floor, and building supports. The paintings were huge and accompanied by the music. Because of the technology, you actually felt like you were immersed in the artwork. Details of the pictures that I have never noticed before came to life and it was easy for me to see how difficult Van Gogh’s life was. The event space was large and even though there were a lot of people, I did not experience a crowd. People were respectful and absorbed in the artwork. I left there wondering if this exhibition would ever come to the U.S., much less Florida.
Well, it has. It is now open in Miami and I plan to attend to see this version. I don’t expect it to be the same as in Paris but I look forward to seeing Van Gogh’s painting again and appreciating immersing myself in them. Every time I see them, I see something different that I can appreciate.
If you like art, especially Van Gogh, this is a program that should not be missed.
