For over 40 years I have lived in Florida, and I have never been to Everglades National Park. However, I have heard much about the park. Now with Covid, daytrips locally have been a great way to get away.
So last week, I decided with family and a friend to make a day trip to the Everglades. It turned out to be a great day. I have been to other National Parks but none like this. Everglades National Park is so huge that it has three main entrances. The closest one to Coral Springs is Shark Valley which is west of Miami off US 41.
What a great choice this was. Upon arrival, I knew I made the right decision. The parking lots were full but as one car left, another one was allowed to enter. Once parked, one is amazed by the number of bikes and riders who come to ride throughout the park. Also, the hikers since there is a paved road which you can walk to the observation tower.
We took the 2-hour tram tour that explained the history of the Everglades and the animals therein. Along the way, there were alligators, crocodiles, and many birds, all living together in the “River of Grass” as the Everglades have come to be known. The view of nature from the observation tower was beautiful. It was completely safe.
The best part was like being in another world where Covid does not exist.
I highly recommend this local excursion.
