5-21-2026 Letting Go!

Letting go and emotional wellness concept

Recently I was looking at all the collectibles, photos, videos. and other items I have gained through the years. I asked myself why I was keeping them.

As I age, I know that at some point, I will need to declutter and let go of what I have been holding onto.

Why was I holding onto them? I did some research.

Letting go is often easier said than done.

Whether it involves actual items or memories, many people cling to the past.

Psychologically, holding on can sometimes give us a sense of control or familiarity, even when it causes stress or emotional pain.

Our minds naturally revisit pleasant memories but also unresolved experiences which can keep us emotionally stuck.

Learning to let go does not mean forgetting, ignoring feelings, or pretending something never mattered. Instead, it means accepting what cannot be changed and allowing ourselves to move forward.

Letting go is a process, not a single decision. It often requires patience, self-awareness, and self-compassion.

When people begin to let go of personal or emotional attachments, they often experience:

  • Reduced stress and anxiety
  • Improved emotional balance
  • Better relationships
  • Greater peace of mind
  • Increased self-confidence

I believe that one of the healthiest things we can do for our mental well-being is to stop carrying emotional burdens that no longer serve us.

Sometimes growth begins not by holding on tighter, but by realizing it’s time to breathe, release, and move forward.

We will always have the good memories.

Your Turn!
