9-23-2026: Self-Care: Taking Better Care of Yourself!

We often spend so much time taking care of other people that we forget to take care of ourselves.

Work, family, responsibilities, and everyday stress can leave us feeling tired and overwhelmed. Sometimes we tell ourselves that we will slow down “when things settle down.” The problem is that things rarely settle down for very long.

Self-care isn’t selfish. It is not about escaping your responsibilities or doing something extravagant. It is about recognizing what you need and making time for it.

Pay Attention to the Signs!

Your mind and body often tell you when you need a break.

You may become more irritable, impatient, anxious, tired, or disconnected. You might find yourself having difficulty concentrating or enjoying things you normally like.

Rather than pushing those feelings aside, consider them a signal.

Self-care works best when it becomes part of everyday life rather than something you do only when you’re exhausted.

Taking care of yourself is not about escaping your responsibilities. It is about making sure that you have the emotional and physical energy to meet them.

It is not about taking an expensive vacation, going to a spa, or spending hours doing something special. Often, the most meaningful forms of self-care are simple.

It can mean:

  • Getting enough sleep
  • Taking a walk
  • Turning off your phone for a while
  • Eating something healthy
  • Listening to music
  • Reading a book
  • Saying “no” when you have taken on too much

One Simple Question

Today, take a moment and ask yourself:

“What is one thing I can do for myself today that will help me feel a little better?”

Then do it.

It doesn’t have to be big. It just has to be intentional.

Remember taking care of yourself isn’t a luxury. It is part of taking care of your life.
